Overview

In September 2017, Kailash overland tour from Kerung border underway as an alternative route, which is easily accessible to Mount Kailash from the suburbs of Nepal. This tour starts with sightseeing in Kathmandu. Not only this but also AID Team will take you to the UNESCO listed world heritage sites of the Kathmandu valley. As an alternative, you can also make a visit to Muktinath by arriving in Nepal a few days earlier. Soon after this, we will have an enchanting view of the Langtang National Park and cross the Nepal- Tibet border to arrive at Kerung. Reaching there, we will drive to the villages of Saga, Mansarovar, and Darchen with great views of the sacred Mt. Kailash, Mt. Gurla-Mandala, Rakshash Lake, and Lake Mansarovar. As per the itinerary, on day 8, we will initiate the 3 day-long Kailash Kora. The objective of this tour is to view the gigantic landscape of the sacred top of Kailash, Holy Lake of Mansarovar, and the highest pass of Drolma La. As the journey of the Kailash Overland Tour takes; we can curtail or extend our trip as per our requirements. The most suitable time to visit Mt. Kailash – is between May to August.

09:00 AM- After Breakfast- Srive to Saga (220 km-5-6 hrs) - Saga is a small city & can roam around the area Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner | Hotel: Hotel with attached bathroom
- 08:00 AM - Drive towards Mansarovar Lake (450 km - 8 hrs), crossing beautiful places, and stay at the shore of the Lake. - Fill spiritual water. Parikrama of Mansarovar Lake by vehicle (3 hrs - 90 km) - You will be able to see the south face of Kailash from Mansarovar Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
- Most of the day - Perform Puja (prayer ritual) at Mansarovar Lake - 04:00 PM - Drive to Darchen (35 km - 1hr) - On the way ,visit Rakxas Lake Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner | Hotel: Hotel with attached bathroom
10:00 AM - After a short drive, we will reach Tarboche/Yama Dwar & Visit Yamadwar. This is the starting point for Kora. Yamadwar is also called the entry point of heaven or Hell Trek to Dirapuk (12 km-5hrs), this trek is an almost flat walk except for some slight uphill During the trek, you will see the first west face & North face of Mt. Kailash Those who won't be able to do Kora will stay at Darchen & wait for the other members & join them after their kora completion The trek would be on the riverside way with normal ascending. Meal: Breakfast at Darchen, Packed Lunch, Dinner | Hotel: Guesthouse
- After Breakfast– Trek to Charan Sparsha & Back to Dirapuk, which is 8-10km both ways (4-5 hrs) - You hike to Charan Sparsha Point, which is quite challenging at 5800 meters/19000 ft - At this place, pilgrims symbolically touch the North Face of Kailash- signifying the foot of Lord Shiva - Charan Sparsha is not a regular program or route like Kora- it always depends on Chinese local authority rules, sometimes it might close due to a huge crowd or something - Accommodation at a normal guest house, sharing a room with 4-5 people Note: If you are physically fit and the Tibetan Government allows it, we will trek further to do Charan Sparsh (Touch Kailash) on the same day and return to Dirapuk.
07:00 AM- Start trek from Dirapuk to Zuthulpuk, which is 22km total -9 hrs walk At first, you will walk for almost (6km-2 hrs) is a slight accent & 2 km is a steep accent to reach the Dolma-la pass (5700 meters) You are going through Yamasthal (Valley of God of Death) & Shivasthal, where people offer things to Lord Shiva &  reach Dolma-la Pass From the Dolma-la pass top point, you start descending to the lower surface point, which is 4 km (1.5 hrs) through a rocky walk While getting down, you will see Gauri Kunda (where goddess Parbati had bath) From Lower point to Zuthulpuk is a flat walk, which is about 12 km, and it takes 5 hrs Accommodation at a normal guest house, sharing 4-5 people in a room Meal: Breakfast, Packed Lunch, Dinner | Hotel: Guesthouse
In the morning, after a short trek (8kms) which will take 3hrs, walking would be some flat with little slight ascending- and we reach the point where the vehicle will be waiting for us and will drive to Darchen (3km), and we join other members who were waiting and drive to Saga, (4550) (470kms – 7-8hrs), Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Saga Hotel or similar
Back journey, drive to Kerung County. Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner | Hotel: 3 Star Hotel - Phuntsok Khansang Hotel or similar
We drive from Kyirung to the border (40kms) – 1hr, and completing immigration procedure, we drive back to Kathmandu. In the evening, we will have dinner at the hotel – and all paper works will be provided to you from our office such as Completion of Journey and so on.
Finally, we proceed to Kathmandu Airport; everybody has to be there before 2 – 3 hours for paperwork and etc. We bid farewell to all, with sound health and journey.

FAQ

• In Kathmandu & Nepaljung, we keep 3,4 & 5 stars depending on group size & requirements • Hotel stays will be on a sharing basis in Kathmandu • If someone stays single then supplement costs will applied • Tibet Side- accommodation will be in a Guest house in all places on a shared with a common bath • Note- Private bathrooms are there in some places, which depends on the subject’s availability
• Nepal Side: We will provide decent transportation by A/C Coach for Sightseeing tours. • Kathmandu to Kerung: Kathmandu to Kerung Non AC BUS until the road is properly constructed. • Tibet Side: AC Coach
• The Chinese visa is a group Visa that is paper-based. • First- we need your passport copies by email to apply for the Tibet Travel Permit (required by the Chinese government). • We will apply for a Tibet permit 01 months before the departure date. After that, we need your original passport for Group Visa processing: • Indian Nationality: You have to send your original passport 07 working days before the Fixed departure date • Foreign Nationals: We will need your original passport for 04 working days to obtain the visa. Since Saturday & Sunday won’t count as working days. • After you get a group Chinese Visa, we will hand over the passport individually at your hotel lobby. • Therefore, since it takes time, we suggest our Yatris book as early as possible, so that your Yatra can begin on your desired departure date. • If you already have a Chinese Visa: Chinese Embassy will cancel that existing visa & they will issue another visa as a group visa.
• Inner Parikrama means parikrama of Nandi Parvat and the outer parikrama means parikrama of Kailash Parvat. The regular Overland and Helicopter is only outer Parikrama which is easy to complete. However, Inner Parikrama is currently not open due to restrictions from Chinese Government.
• If you can not or do not want to go for Kailash Parikrama by foot then you can hire a horse and horseman paying extra (YUan 3,800 per person). This rate may vary during travel time, hence not a fixed rate. • Even you do hire a horse, you have to walk at least 2-3 hours • You can choose not to go for Parikrama at all, then you will stay back at Darchen. Our staff will be there preparing accommodation and meals during your stay.
• If you don’t want to do Parikrama we would provide you accommodation and food at Darchen base camp and you will have to wait until others return from Parikrama
• The cost is around Yuan 3800 which you have to pay yourself directly to the horse owner or the porter you are going to hire. The cost includes charges for Horse, Horseman and Porter.
• Since 2018, it won’t be easy to return back & leave the group. The Visa splitting is mostly not accepted by immigration unless someone is sick.
• No, Asthapad and Inner Parikrama is not included since it is not in operation due to restrictions from the Chinese Government.
Indian Rupees are not accepted in Tibet. You will have to take Chinese Yuan which can be exchanged in Nepal on arrival.
You have to take warm clothes like sweater, trousers, thermo-coat, monkey cap, trekking shoes, high-neck, gloves etc, shall also share other details in due course in coming days.
We provide a Waterproof Windcheater Jacket, a Duffel Bag, a Bag Pack, a Cap and a Passport Holder to every members as a souvenir gift from our company. You do not have to return these items after returning from Kailash.
No, the currency that is used in Tibet side is Chinese Yuan. For exchange of Chinese Yuan You can contact us on arrival on Kathmandu.
As the Kailash Mansarovar is at high altitude the climate is cold so it is recommended that you have warm clothes with you, thermo coat, monkey cap, comfort shoes, masks, walking sticks, sunscreen lotions, sun glasses are also recommended accessories for the trip.
Our group size is minimum 30-35 person for Helicopter and Overland tour. The group can reach 55 – 70 members in each group but can be more during Full moon trips.
Age limit is 69 years old for Indian Passport Holders as per the current rules and regulations. For Non-Indian Passport Holders there is no age limit till date. However, we do not recommend travelers above 80 years old to join for the trip
Nepali sim card doesn’t work at Tibet side but there will be shops at the phone center on the way to Kailash Yatra. You can take your mobile with you and buy a sim card there to call your family and relatives.
• Festivals in Tibet happen during Full Moon (especially Saga Dawa Full Moon Festival: the holiest day in Tibetan Buddhism) • Full-Moon in Mansarovar: Many Yatris prefer doing puja during the Full Moon (Purnima) • Many want to see the beautiful view of the full moon over Mount Kailash • Prefer doing Kora during Full-moon
• The food provided will be hygienic and pure vegetarian. • The local water will be provided for drinking water. You can also purchase mineral water bottles at the Tibet side.
• You have to be physically fit for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Getting a medical checkup before you plan to go for this religious journey is recommended. But it is not mandatory that you have to submit the medical checkup certificate. People with back pain may have problem during the trip on the jagged road. People with asthma or allergic to dust are strongly recommended to wear mask on the dusty road. Besides these people are recommended to practice walking and do exercise and yogas for the physical fitness.
