Overview

In September 2017, Kailash overland tour from Kerung border underway as an alternative route, which is easily accessible to Mount Kailash from the suburbs of Nepal. This tour starts with sightseeing in Kathmandu. Not only this but also AID Team will take you to the UNESCO listed world heritage sites of the Kathmandu valley. As an alternative, you can also make a visit to Muktinath by arriving in Nepal a few days earlier. Soon after this, we will have an enchanting view of the Langtang National Park and cross the Nepal- Tibet border to arrive at Kerung. Reaching there, we will drive to the villages of Saga, Mansarovar, and Darchen with great views of the sacred Mt. Kailash, Mt. Gurla-Mandala, Rakshash Lake, and Lake Mansarovar. As per the itinerary, on day 8, we will initiate the 3 day-long Kailash Kora. The objective of this tour is to view the gigantic landscape of the sacred top of Kailash, Holy Lake of Mansarovar, and the highest pass of Drolma La. As the journey of the Kailash Overland Tour takes; we can curtail or extend our trip as per our requirements. The most suitable time to visit Mt. Kailash – is between May to August.

Outline Itinerary

Day 01:Arrive in Kathmandu (1300 m) transfer to hotel and overnight

Day 02:Full day sightseeing in Kathmandu.Overnight at Hotel

Day 03:Drive Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (By Tourist Bus). Overnight at Guest House

Day 04:Drive from Syabrubesi to Kerung. Overnight at Guest house

Day 05:Drive from Kerung to Saga (5-6 hours, 4640m). Overnight at Guest house

Day 06:Drive from Saga to Lake Mansarovar (5-6 hours, 277km, 4558m). Overnight at Guest house

Day 07:Exploration Day. Drive to Darchen (1 hour, 40km, 4575m). Overnight at Hotel Today

Day 08:Kailash Kora. Drive from Darchen to Yamadwar and trek to Derapuk (5-6 hours, 4900m). Overnight at Guest house

Day 09:Kailash Kora. Trek to Juthulpuk via Drolma La Pass (8-9 hours, 19km, 4760m). Overnight at Guest house

Day 10:Kailash Kora. Drive back to Saga. Overnight at Guest house

Day 11:Drive back to Kerung. Overnight at Guest house

Day 12:Drive back to Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel

Day 13:Final departure to home

    • Personal Horse riding/helper expenses during the Mount Kailash Circuit (Kora) (around 3500 Chinese Yuan)

    • If pilgrims leave the group early from the Tibet side for non – disease reasons then USD 100 per person per day has to be paid as a penalty to the Tibet side – T.A.R. Foreign Exchange Center (FEC). ( Visa splitting charge, accommodation, transportation charges will be extra)
    • Extra accommodation charge in Kathmandu, Nepalgunj, Simikot, and Hilsa if the flight is canceled due to bad weather or delay in Permit /Visa from Tibet (Please make sure your air ticket is flexible to change dates)
    • Visa splitting charge and extra transportation cost, if returning early from Tibet.
    • Any additional cost due to natural calamities and unforeseen circumstances

Detail Itenerary


Pilgrims/ travelers arrive at the Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu. Our staff will welcome you and accompany you to the hotel for check-in and in the evening, we attain Aarati at Pashupatinath. We stay overnight.

In the morning, after breakfast, we do sightseeing of Kathmandu; we visit Pashupatinath, Gujeswori Temple, Jal Narayan, Bouddhanath Stupa, and Swyamabhunath Stupa. We have Lunch on the way. In the Evening at the hotel, Trip Preparation and Briefing

We drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (2000m), it is 141km away and it takes 7 hours to reach, we stay overnight in Lodge.

We drive to Kerung County. (2850m) and drive to Rasuwagadhi (1800m) distance 15 km, duration 45 mins from Syabrubesi, here we do complete immigration and customs procedure both in Nepal & Tibet, and we continue to drive to Kerung section (2850m) – 1 hr. distance 40 km. we spend overnight stay guesthouse

In the morning, we drive to Saga (4550m) – 220 km, duration 5 to 6 hrs. We have Breakfast, Packed Lunch and Dinner at Saga, and spend the night there.

We drive from Saga to Mansarovar Lake (450km – 6 – 7hrs), crossing beautiful places, and stay at the shore of the Lake. We feel spiritual water, and do Parikrama of Manasarovar Lake by vehicle (3 hrs – 90 km).

We drive to Darchen (4650m), the whole day; we perform Puja and other rituals at Manasarovar Lake. In the evening, we drive to Darchen (35km – 1hrs); all Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Dormitory Sharing Guest House.

We initiate First Day of Outer Kora – we then trek to Dirapuk (4860m), after a short drive, we will reach Tarboche and visit Yama Dwar, this is opening point for Kora. We will trek to Dirapuk (4860 m) which is 12 kms trek, duration (5-6 hrs). We will visit North face of Mt. Kailash, and we touch the feet of Mt. Kailash (Charan Sparsh). Pilgrims who do not want to do Parikrama of Kailash, can go back to Darchen and wait for their friends to arrive from Parikrama. We have Breakfast, Packed Lunch, Dinner at Mud house on the way during Parikrama or we stay in Dormitory Guest House at Darchen

We do Second Day of Outer Kora – as we are on to Zuthulphuk (4670m), we make a trek to Dolma La Pass. In the morning, we trek from Dirapuk to Dolma La Pass and carry on to Zuthulpuk (22 km), 8-9 hours. In fact, it is the most challenging journey throughout the yatra since one has to have to march up to the 5700 ft. Descending to Gaurikund, we further trek along the river to Zuthul-puk. Packed Lunch, Dinner at the Lodge (Zuthul-puk). If we are not doing Parikrama, then you will still be waiting for your friends at Darchen

In the morning, after a short trek (8kms), 2 – 3hrs - and we reach the point where the vehicle will be waiting for us and will drive to Darchen, and we join other members who were waiting and drive to Saga, (4550) (470kms – 7-8hrs), Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Saga Hotel or similar

We drive back to Kerung(2850m – 220 km – 5 to 6 hrs). We stay overnight stay at guesthouse

we drive from Kyirung to the border (40kms) – 1hr, and completing immigration procedure, we drive back to Kathmandu. In the evening, we will have dinner at the hotel – and all paper works will be provided to you from our office such as Completion of Journey and so on.

Finally, we proceed to Kathmandu Airport; everybody has to be there before 2 – 3 hours for paperwork and etc. We bid farewell to all, with sound health and journey.
